RIP frogger

(* this would be a picture of the actual frogger, but i can't seem to figure out how to get pictures off of my cell phone...)

i think everyone needs to take a moment of silence to acknowledge the passing of frogger. i got to work this morning only to find my sweet little grow-a-frog-tadpole-recently-morphed frog dead. cami got me the grow-a-frog kit for my birthday, and after being a tailless frog for probably less than a week, frogger died while we were all out for the weekend. i had to run over to brian upon finding frogger because, well, he's a dad and is much better equiped to deal with these kinds of things. luckily i didn't have to witness any of it, i just hung out with rano in his temporary sea monkey home.... frogger will sadly be missed around here -- i'm convinced that he wasn't fully ready for the frog transition. he seemed kind of runty and i never saw him eat...

don't worry though, rano, frogger's free frog friend who came with tube town (don't ask, it's like a little aquatic zoo up here on my desk), is fine. a little confused, but fine nonetheless. he will most likely have a new friend in the next week or so.

Your! Dallas! Mavericks! Bloopers!

In honor of their crazy-awesome season, and upcoming trip to the playoffs, I present you with this reel of Mavericks bloopers. You can watch this if you don't want to go to the Mavs rally tonight at American Airlines Center (no, the players aren't scheduled to be there).

Thanks to Bobsky over at Unfair Park for this tip (off). (I am so funny.)

Hit the Walls and Work the Middle? Hmmm...

This "lecture" is truly educational...and when I say educational, I mean a hilarious rant about a woman-done-wrong and the evil penis. I think my favorite is the Long John Silvers part...and that her mother is sitting there listening while inexplicably clutching an expandable file.

Thanks to Jake for this one.

i can read french still

my new favorite site of the moment: twittervision. it's like people watching from the comfort of your own home/office/desk/rss feed (though that's pushing it....)

see, if you don't already know about it, twitter is this random little site where people post their answer to the question "what are you doing?". people's responses can be anything from "waiting for my meeting to start" to "contemplating the difference between that vs. which". and on and on. there's a character limit (140), so you don't worry about having to scroll through some huge as rant or anything. everything's short and sweet. well, sometimes not so sweet, but entertaining to say the least.

on the twitter site you can check out the public time line (and enter your own "tweets" if you want) which is updated about every 5 minutes, but twittervision is where it's at i tell you. it's a big ol' googlemap that bops all over the the world showing specifically where all of these various tweets are coming from, usually within a minute or so of being posted. and now i can't stop. seriously. i've been watching it for about 40 minutes now....so get your butts over there and join and twitter away so that i can see what everyone's up to.

Update in Angel Case

The reward for information concerning the Belmont/McMillan animal abuse case has now increased to $6,000 thanks to contributions from neighborhood citizens and businesses.

Avi over at BarkingDogs.org has also posted the story and forwarded it to more than 1,000 people on his mailing list. Nice work, Dog.

East Dallas Animal Cruelty

This is despicable, as is any abuse to an animal. Let's hope this little one finds a loving home...and those that try to adopt her but are beaten to punch find other adoptable animals to love.

Below is a release from Operation Kindness. A giant cyber-hug to the awesome Garland couple and pets and lovies to Angel.
$2,500 REWARD OFFERED BY OPERATION KINDNESS IN ANIMAL CRUELTY CASE
Found Dog Had Evidence of Wire Wrapped Around Its Muzzle for 6 Weeks

A $2,500 reward is being offered by Operation Kindness in the apparent animal cruelty case involving a small dog that appears to have had wire wrapped around its muzzle for more than a month.
The 9-pound dog, which has been named Angel, was found Friday, March 23, in the intersection of Belmont and McMillan in East Dallas. She was wearing a plastic “E-collar,” which is normally put on an animal’s head to keep it from pawing an incision or wound.
The dog was rescued by Diane and David Leslie of Garland, who saw her attempting to cross the street. They took her to Operation Kindness, where the deep wounds around her muzzle were noticed.
Operation Kindness immediately took the 3-year-old spaniel-terrier mix to a veterinarian for treatment. According to Dr. Paul Keating of Trinity Pet Hospital in Carrollton, it appeared that wire had been wrapped around the dog’s muzzle for about 6 weeks and had been removed 3 weeks before she was found and taken to Operation Kindness.
“The wounds left by the wire completely encircled Angel’s muzzle and were so deep that her teeth were exposed on the side,” said Jonnie England, executive director of Operation Kindness. “The wire must have allowed her to eat, but each time she moved her jaw, it cut even deeper into her skin.”
Dr. Keating did reconstructive mouth surgery on March 29. “Angel has had some minor complications following the surgery, but is now recovering at Operation Kindness,” said England.
The $2,500 reward being offered by Operation Kindness is for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for wrapping the wire around the dog’s muzzle. The case has been reported to Dallas Animal Services and the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office, and is being investigated as animal cruelty.

Anyone with information should contact Dallas Animal Services at 214-671-0105 or Operation Kindness at 972-418-PAWS (7297), ext. 226.
This is in our 'hood and I hate it.

Oh, and since it's tax season, I'll just add that donations to Operation Kindness are tax-deductible. Woo hoo!

Hey, Whatcha Readin'?

GoodReads.com is like if online book catalog LibaryThing and MySpace mated. It rocks. Check it out and friend me if you wanna. I'd like to know what you're reading...cause I might just wanna read it too. You know, if you say it's good...or awful...or bizarre... I could go on, but I'd rather be reading.
