suck it trebek

alex trebek is a horrible, horrible man. he's an apparent misogynist who thinks he knows everything. we don't think you do, alex. but we still love the Jeopardy! ...and other things too.

google takes to the streets

google makes me happy. much more so than live search, but that's another story...

i thought that satellite was pretty damn cool, but now the boys tell me about the new street view option. i mean damn. if you so desire, you can take a nice leisurely stroll across golden gate bridge with 360 views. sheesh.

at the moment the only cities with street views available are san francisco, vegas, new york, miami, and denver. wait, denver? yeah. not sure how that one got in there, but i've been cruising my old stomping grounds quite a bit. 15th street tavern, oh how i miss you.

i tried to get a street view of my grandma's place, but she's just outside the street view area -- talk about living on the wrong side of the tracks....

just think about how this could change the future of travel planning. "hey hon, i just looked up that hotel on google street -- there's a guy peeing on the doorstep. let's stay at that cool looking place a few doors down instead."

Farewell, My Scrumtrulescent Hero.

Sad news yesterday. My beloved CNR left us for the big Match Game in the sky. He was a real inspiration.

In honor of the great comedy genius, I present you with Alec Baldwin's unrivaled impersonation/tribute:

Ah Ha.

Before I head off to San Antone with the fella for a fun little not-in-Dallas weekend (yes, be jealous. be very jealous. hee hee), I thought I'd update you peeps on the Sanjaya video. (Not that you care, but we have to be credible here.) It was a joke. A Will Ferrell-related joke, no less.

Thanks for the link, Wee.

AVS is A-OK!

Go here now and buy the inaugural zine from one Allison V. Smith. Seriously, do it. Go now. It's got crazy awesome photos in it that she kicked out in 2006 (43 pages worth to be exact). Signed and numbered. It's 20 bucks (which, for the work of Ms. Smith, is practically nada). Full color, yo. For reals. Support local. Word.

Mmm, Bamboo!

I realize this has been around for quite sometime, however thanks to my awesome Sloth Cam widget on my Mac dashboard, I have fallen in love again with...the...PANDA CAM!

Yesterday Mei Sheng was totally gorging on bamboo before hightailing it up into the tree for an adorably cute nap, during which she balanced herself on a branch by hanging her back off one side and her ample belly off the other. I was practically shrieking.

Last I checked, Bai Yun (pictured) was snoozin' on a rock. Classic Bai Yun. Check it out.

I. Can't. Stop.

Lesson: Don't Mess With a Cape Buffalo's Calf

This is so amazing (cape buffalo, lions and crocodiles):

A Brawl In The Safari - Watch more free videos

And if you're concerned about whether or not the calf makes it, just remember who posted it and relax.

Um, OK.

Lady Wee lead me to this little nugget of weirdness from TMZ. Normally, I wouldn't even utter the word Sanjaya on this site, but hell, if this is real, the guy's a freaking magician. If it's not, the "I am art" part is worth the watch any way.

pop song correspondences

i generally don't take kindly to people talking bad about my beloved billy joel. them's fighting words. sure, he hasn't made some of the best decisions in life, but give the guy a break. he's the piano man for godssake! if anyone was going to make my sweet billy sound bad though, i'm glad that it's john moe over at mcsweeney's with his newest entry into the pop-song correspondences.

ladies and gentleman, i bring you a note placed in the pay envelope of billy "the piano man" joel.

also: what was up with the crappy grey's anatomy season finale? seriously? did i wait all season for that?

i want

sometimes i'm in a joy division mood, sometimes a new order mood, but rarely do the two intersect. go figure.

but with the much hyped new order break up (so sad) and the control premier at cannes later this week (nice timing on that one by the way), i find myself bouncing between the two equally....it's not like i really listen to much music that's come out in the past 10 years anyway -- you have to admit that it's just not as good.

in my random surfing through all the internet buzz, i happened upon these gems, which i now need:

i wear a 6 1/2 - 7, and i promise, if you get them for me i will love you forever.

I Now Agree to Like Austin for One Weekend

Oh, HELL yeah. So today I saw the line-up for Ye Ole ACL Festival. Two words: Crowded House. Two words: The National. Two words: Andrew Bird. Two: Bloc Party. Two: Steve Earle. One: Muse. Two: Lucinda Williams. One: Wilco. Two real big ones: Bob Dylan.

To celebrate and revel in the excitement, I've just finished playing a song from all the ACL bands I've got on my iPod. I'm a big dork. (And I know, I'm sure I'm not the first to post the link, but you've prolly noticed I haven't been around much. Yeah, I've been feeling like the shit, but I'm not on the mend and so this is big new news for me. Go with it. Feel it.)

spinner says

no, not that spinner, though we do love him dearly, spray cheese and all. i'm talking about this spinner. a while back (and by that i mean a couple of months ago) they compiled a list of the 20 worst lyrics ever. good stuff--it makes me all giggly-like reading through the list. but then there's the inevitable, "hey, don't forget about so-and-so's dumb song X" and boy, were the comments a'flowin. the folks at spinner were nice enough to put together the readers' 20 worst lyrics ever, culled from all the comments they originally received. here's one of my favorite observations:

Your best friend Harry/Has a brother Larry/In five days from now/He's gonna marry/He's hopin' you can make it/There if you can'/Cause in the ceremony/You'll be the best man"--Young MC's 'Bust A Move'

Simplistic lyrics aside, why are you your best friend's brother's best man? Why didn't Harry ask Larry . . . or why doesn't Harry have his own best friend? --Maggie, Fayetteville, Ga.

good point there maggie. you're my kind of people.
p.s. pics of the new froggies to come soon!
